Re-purposing for DIY Halloween

From ugly purse to D.I.Y. Steampunk Witch accessories, here’s what I have been up to this week. I found this old purse at a thrift store for $5. Purses are awesome to re-purpose since they have great details that are so hard to do yourself. Here is the original purse:

My costume this year is a Steampunk Witch, so I made a spell pouch by sewing the two front pockets on the purse together. It looks creepy and weathered and only took a few minutes to put together. Then, I used the bottom of the purse for the base of my magical herb bandolier. The corner rivets added a nice touch and I used one of the purse straps as the strap behind the back to hold the bandolier up. img_4406

Next, I’m working to trick out a basic witch hat and I’m making a broom from scratch. I already have my main branch for the broom, but now I need to collect smaller branches for the end of the broom and I might even add a functional element that makes the broom spin or do something cool. I’ll update as we get closer to Halloween.

Are you making a costume? Do you celebrate Halloween? I’d love to hear about it!
